Gul Panag in 'Turning 30'

Acting in Turning 30 brought Gul Panag face to face with her fears.

"I confronted my fears when I was playing the role of Naina Singh," the actress said at a press conference in Mumbai.

Turning 30, which is directed by Alankrita Shrivastava and produced by Prakash Jha, is the story of a single woman who grapples with several issues as she turns 30.

Elaborating on her role, Gul says, "I play a woman called Naina Singh, who has everything in her life right from a good career to being independent. Things change in her life when she is about to turn 30. What happens when her perfect life changes, is something which you will have to watch."

Purab Kohli plays the male lead in the film. "I play a young photographer, who has had his shares of indecisiveness, but later becomes a settled and a sorted out guy," he says.

Asked if he was comfortable acting in a woman-centric movie, Purab says, "Honestly, I had my share of doubts as to what my role was in the movie. But the director's conviction and clarity on the subject convinced me to do the role."

What helped were the parties thrown while shooting for the movie. "We had to party a lot in the movie, so we actually had fun while shooting. In fact, the first party scene was actually a party thrown by Alankrita at her own house," Purab revealed.

Of course, it was not all fun. There were rumours about Gul having to redo her dubbing, leading to tension between the director and the actress. "Yes, we did lose two reels as I was suffering from a terrible case of laryngitis," Gul says. "We had our share of disagreements but I won't call it a fight. Alakriti is very clear about what she wants, and it's her way or the highway. I wanted certain inputs as an actor but she was adamant about the kind of shots she wanted."

But Alankrita was all praise for Gul. "Gul is a terrific actress. I think it's difficult to portray a relatable character and she has a done a fabulous job," she says.

Alankrita also parised her producer Prakash Jha. "I have been working with him for seven years. He is a great producer; he lets you do your job."

Hansika got Busy

Hansika Motwani is currently busy with multiple projects. The actress, who is making her debut with Mappillai in Tamil film industry, has already completed shooting for a couple of films.

Hansika plays opposite Dhanush in Mappillai. Bollywood’s actress Manisha Koraila plays her mom’s role in the film. It is worth mentioning that the film is a remake of superstar Rajinikanth’s yesteryear blockbuster with the same title. Her other film Engeyum Kadhal, which is directed by choreographer-turned-filmmaker Prabhu Deva is also complete and is scheduled to hit the screens in November.


Having done with a couple of films with the big banners, she is now busy filming for her next project titled Velayudham that has Vijay in the lead role. At the moment, scenes involving her and Vijay are being shot in the backdrops of cool-n-green Pollachi.

Sohail replaces Harman

If ‘Dabangg’ was all about Salman Khan and Arbaaz Khan, now their younger brother Sohail too is getting ready to show his power. After a flop called ‘Veer’ earlier this year with brother Salman, Sohail has now been signed on to play an important role in Feroz Nadiadwala produced and Rajkumar Santoshi directed film, ‘Power’.

Earlier, this role was offered to Harman Baweja and then to Emraan Hashmi. But both had turned down the offer. The music of the film will be composed by Anand Raj Anand. Also, rumours are in the air that Anil Kapoor is about to don a villainous role in the film.

The film is made with a huge starcast that includes Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgn, Amisha Patel, Lekha Washington, Kangna Ranaut, Anuradha Patel and so on. Now that’s quite a long list for Sohail to contend with.

The Oscar-winning actress admits it is ironic how she had a lot of physical challenges when she played a female boxer in 'Million Dollar Baby' and walked away unscathed, but had to shut down production on the romantic comedy for a week after co-star Gerard Butler accidentally flung a pair of braces at her forehead.

She explained: "There was a perfect brace mark in my forehead. I was laughing but crying at the same time. Everyone was standing around the bed and I went to touch my head and my make-up artist went, 'No, no, no, don't touch it!'. So I knew it was bad.
"I had to have stitches and we shut down production for a week. It's crazy to think I did a whole boxing movie and my face went virtually unscathed and then I do a romantic comedy and I get stitches in my head!"

The 36-year-old star revealed her part in 'P.S. I Love You' came about after screenwriter and director Richard LaGravenese wanted to show her "funny side" after first casting the actress in 2007's 'Freedom Writers'.

Hilary added to Total Film magazine. : "While we were doing 'Freedom Writers', Richard LaGravenese said, 'God, you're so girlie, you're funny, I want to show this side of you'. I loved working with him on 'Freedom Writers' so it was great to work with him back-to-back on 'P.S. I Love You'."

Himesh back to Music

On October 20, Himesh Reshammiya launched his music company without much fanfare. Named HR Musik Limited, the label will sign on talented singers throughout small towns and cities across the country.

Says CEO of HR Musik, Andy Singh, “Our venture will identify talented musicians, singers, lyricists, music composers and create fresh music content in all languages in feature films, singles and videos.” The company has already appointed established music professionals to begin selecting musicians. They also plan to get music schools to associate with them. Reshammiya will supervise the whole process. Singh says, “Most singers that get selected through us will sing with Himesh Reshammiya and other singers.

This way their names will appear next to that of a singer of repute.”HR Musik also plans to introduce the ‘featuring’ concept, famous internationally, to India. The latest such international hit is‘The way you lie to me, sung by Eminem featuring Rihanna.

Singh concludes, “We are already in the process of signing some known artists in India and abroad to produce music albums, which will be announced soon.”

Hrithik Roshan to act in DON 2

According to the latest reports in Bollywood, actor Hrithik Roshan will be seen in a special role in Don 2. Last night, Hrithik Roshan has reportedly flown to Berlin to shoot a special role in ‘Don 2 – The Chase Continues’.

The producers of the film, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani felt that Hrithik Roshan will be the perfect person to play this special role in this film. Sources says, “Roshan’s character is a stylised one with interesting shades and they felt only he could do justice to it. But Farhan and Ritesh want to keep Hrithik’s role hidden till the film’s release as it’s one of the highlights of Don 2.”

But, the film makers has kept the presence of Hrithik in the film secretly and wanted to surprise the audience. So, Hrithik Roshan and Shahrukh Khan will be seen together in Don 2 after Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham. Farhan Akhtar is the director of this movie. Don 2 is expected to release by Dec 23rd, 2011.

Long regarded as producers of mass-market merchandise, Indian jewelers are nurturing a new reputation for their country as a greenhouse for cutting-edge design. This message was loud and clear after the India International Jewellery Week in Mumbai Aug. 15–19. The event featured 30 Indian designers—including Amrapali and Zoya by Tanishq—participating in fashion-week-esque runway shows.

Organized in conjunction with the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council and the India International Jewellery Show 2010, IIJW served as the country’s first jewelry week—and perhaps also as a first step in chipping away at its reputation as solely a producer of mass merchandise. “The purpose behind this project is to bring Indian designers to the forefront,” said Haresh Zaveri, co-convener of IIJS and head of the IIJW organizational committee. According to the GJEPC, 32,823 visitors attended IIJW and IIJS (topping last year’s 30,000)—some 25 percent of whom were new guests.

The shows took place at the Grand Hyatt, a luxury hotel fitting for the tony array of high-karat-gold, antique-Indian-style designs. Designers were specially selected for the four-day event, which was packed with seven to eight daily runway shows featuring jewels, not clothing, as the main attraction. Models glided down the runway in elegant, understated uniforms—loose-fitting black gowns, saris, and even ball gowns—chosen to serve as muted backdrops for the vibrant colored-stone and diamond-studded jewels: traditional bridal designs (like the Maang Tikka, a hair ornament worn in the center part); nose rings; arm bands; and more. Zaveri maintains that future IIJW venues will include international designers, though some—like the U.K.’s Stephen Webster—were spotted in the crowd, which also included Bollywood stars Gauhar Khan and Isha Koppikar Narang.

Jackie Chan has launched a great new competition for budding young artists as part of a new charity initiative.

The Jackie Chan Charitable Foundation Beijing is set to launch the Dragon's Heart School Safety Teaching Program in schools around China and they want you to design cartoons of the new Seven Little Fortunes for each chapter title page that will feature in the Dragon’s Heart School Safety campaign folders.

On September 12, 2010, China’s Ministry of Education Teacher Development Foundation announced the start of the Dragon’s Heart School Safety Teacher Training Program and, at the same time established a foundation specifically for the Dragon’s Heart School Safety campaign.

The Jackie Chan Charitable Foundation Beijing donated 1 million RMB to jump start the Dragon’s Heart School Safety Teacher Training Program and the Dragon’s Heart School Safety Foundation. This specifically designated foundation will also donate several thousand sets of Planning School Safety Work Folders to schools around China, which will be used for teacher training and school exercises.

Jessica Biel isn't enough for Justin Timberlake, if you believe this Us Weekly story about his New York fling last month with starlet Olivia Munn.

These two met at some party and JT "started chasing her immediately," says the mag's un-named source.

Munn supposedly him down flat, since he was already taken. But JT, horndog that he is, convinced her that he and Biel were ancient history. Two days later, when they emerged from her room at the Gansevoort Park Avenue Hotel, Munn had deduced that JT was not really single, and that was the end of that, the story says.

Timberlake's publicist denies everything; Munn had somebody say she's "not that type of girl." She's 30. So is Jessica. Justin is 29.

John Abraham found Guilty

Fifteen days after being convicted in a case of rash and negligent driving and for injuring two people, Bollywood actor John Abraham, on Friday, filed an appeal in the sessions court against his conviction. The Bandra metropolitan magistrate court had sentenced Abraham to 15 days of simple imprisonment on October 14.

“The lower court ought to have seen that either a person has committed a rash act or has been criminally negligent. He can’t do both,” said Abraham in his appeal.

Further, he added that the ‘judge has misconstrued and has, without applying the principles relating to the acts of rashness and criminal negligence, convicted the applicant (Abraham)’.

The appeal also stated that though the police had recorded the statements of various witnesses at the time of the incident, except for the evidence of one of the victims, ‘no other witnesses have been examined in respect to the alleged incident’.

According to Abraham, even the victim ‘has not made out a case of either criminal negligence or rashness against him.

“The lower court has relied upon hearsay evidence in convicting the appellant (Abraham), said the actor in his appeal.

The incident dates back to April 8, 2006, when Abraham had rammed his Suzuki Hayabusa bike into two youngsters on a bicycle at around 11.15 pm on Carter Road, Bandra.

Karthi on Jyothika

Since most members of his family are connected with movies, the feedback they give after watching every film of him is very important to Karthi, the hot and happening hero of Tamil cinema.

“It’s tough to satisfy dad (Sivakumar). But he was happy after watching ‘Naan Mahaan Alla’. He told me not to do things in haste and to be responsible and careful in whatever I do”, he says.

Kajol and Ajay go Animated

Bollywood has tried and tried to create their niche in the animated film segment. Unfortunately, we never seem to get it right. While the characters are often loved ala Bal Ganesh and Bal Hanuman, the animation is always frowned upon simply because they don't seem to compare to the West where animated films are top notch in their making. So along comes ace Indian Animator Kiran Khurana who has won numerous awards for his work in animation in over 12 years and quickly decides the situation into his hands. In an effort to help the Indian animation film market, Khurana’s upcoming film, Toonpur Ka Superhero, will be India’s first 3D animation combination feature film. This means the worlds of real life and animation will mix and collide to create a one of a kind film.

Toonpur Ka Superhero stars Ajay Devgn and Kajol, who play a married couple. However, despite all his successes on the big screen, his children want him to be a superhero. In attempts to become a hero in the eyes of his children, Aditya played by Devgn, finds himself on a cartoon show where he must help the Devtoons fight the Toonasaurs – the enemies. With music by Anu Malik, the film has been delayed repeatedly but is expected to finally release this December just in time for Christmas.

Not only will this animated film bring together favorites of the industry, Ajay Devgn and Kajol, but will feature a number of popular stars from the industry who will be lending their voices to the animated characters. During the music launch of the film, director Kiran Khurana spoke at length about the film. "Toonpur Ka Superhero is a cute and endearing animation film with Ajay Devgan and Kajol caught up in the war of the toons! A loving father and family man who is a reel life hero and who accidentally lands in the world of cartoons and becomes a real life hero!"he explained.

Kamal Hassan to be felicitated

Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) is going to honour superstar Kamal Hassan. The felicitation is likely to take place in the next six months.

Kamal Hassan, who started his film career as a child actor in Tamil film Kalathur Kannamma, received his first regional Filmfare Award for his role in a Malayalam film titled Kanyakumari in 1974.

Earlier, AMMA faced criticism for boycotting a state government’s function for felicitating the universal star Kamal Hassan. He had a humble start in Mollywood but later earned stardom with his various powerful performances.

Now, AMMA’s treasurer Jagadeesh has come out to clear the air. He said that they did not attend the event only because it was meant to be aired on a private channel. He said that they had no intention of showing any kind of disrespect to the actor.

Jagadheesh has announced that AMMA is now planning to organize a separate grand function to felicitate Kamal Hassan, and it will be done within six months.

Well, whatever be the truth, one thing is sure that the reputation of Kamal Hassan is not dependant on any award by any organization. Recently, the star returned to Mollywood after a long time.

Kamna Jethmalani in Kathi Kantha Rao

Allari Naresh, Kamna Jethmalani starrer ‘Katti Kanta Rao’ directed by his father EVV Satyanarayana is presently in re-recording phase. Filmmakers are planning to complete rest of the works and release it for Diwali on November 5. Big B Productions Banner is making this film. E Ravi Kumar, E Subramanyeswara Rao, E Srinivas Rao and E Poornachandra Rao are producers.

Just like most of the EVV’s films, ‘Kathi Kantha Rao’ is also given a variety tag line – ‘Veedu Madatha Ethesthaadu.’ The film is said to be a fun-filled, comedy entertainer.

EVV Satyanarayana, the director of the film said “Naresh’s role as constable Katti Kantha is going to be a variety one. Devoid of fight scenes, the film is going to have all sorts of essential ingredients. It will certainly guarantee two-and-half hours of fun and entertainment.”

Kangana Ranaut In No Problem

International celebrities make way. Director Anees Bazmi says he's more than happy to have Bollywood's own sizzling stars - Sushmita Sen and Kangana Ranaut - to scorch the dance floor for a song in his forthcoming film No Problem.

"There was no time to get any international celebrity. Our film is complete. Our first trailer was out with Anjaana Anjaani. We just decided to add an extra title song. And we felt we don't really need outside contributions. Sushmita and Kangna are fabulous dancers," Bazmi said.

There were reports earlier that No Problem might see Waka Waka girl Shakira shake a leg.

The number featuring Sushmita, the former Miss Universe, and Kangana, who isn't seen in many dance numbers, will be choreographed by Ahmed Khan. And the buzz is that the two divas will pull out all stops in front of the camera to outdo each other.

Apparently the role models given to Ahmed Khan go back to Vyjanthimala and Helen in the sizzling dance combat in the 1960s Prince and Hema Malini and Parveen Babi in the 1970s' The Burning Train.

Both Sushmita and Kanagana enjoy dancing and the idea would be to make their moves as casual and cool as possible.

The actors in the film -- Sanjay Dutt, Anil Kapoor and Sunil Shetty - are also expected to join the two ladies on the dance floor in No Problem, which is set to release in December.

Karan's fight with RGV

Ram Gopal Varma and Karan Johar belong to two completely different schools of filmmaking and every now and then, they don't hesitate in taking pot shots at each other. With RGV's Rakht Charitra ready for release next week, once again a new war of words has emerged between him and Karan Johar on Twitter.

This spat started when Ram Gopal Varma made a statement saying, "Rc has no loving families...it only has warring families. So all those who liked kabhi khushi kabhi gum better stay away from Rakta charitra"

In reply, Karan Johar who actually was on a so-called Twitter sabbatical tweeted, "Apparently Rakhtcharitra is not for people who liked K3G!! Didn't know planet pluto had multiplexes!! Aliens can't wait to see it!!"

While Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra and even Vidya Balan can claim right to the crown of Bollywood queen, all eyes, right now, are focussed on Aishwarya Rai and Kareena Kapoor who will be fighting out over the theatres this Diwali.

A Pakistani tabloid has now given birth to this Bollywood war between Aishwarya and Kareena since both are up with a big release on the upcoming festive release. Aishwarya’s ‘Action Replayy’ is pitted against Kareena’s ‘Golmaal 3’ come November and thus a box office rivalry is on the cards.

Karishma Kapoor back in AD Campaigning

The Almond Board of California today said it has roped in Karishma Kapoor to endorse ''almonds'' this festive season.

The board, which promotes Californian almonds, has launched a marketing campaign with the new brand ambassador, banking on estimates that 69 per cent of India''s total almond imports come from California.

"India is an important growth market for the Californian almond industry. It is currently the fourth largest export destination for California almonds after Spain, China, and Germany, respectively," the board said in a statement .

Almond exports to India reached 38,000 metric tonnes in 2009-10. "The positive growth has been a result of increasing consumer demand," it added.

The new campaign will communicate the health benefits of almonds to consumers and Kapoor will also be engaged in activities on the ground for promotion.

"The Indian festive season is a major factor contributing to increased demand for almonds in India and our endeavour is to communicate the benefits of this power-packed nut as not only important for the festive season, but also throughout the year," Almond Board of California CEO Richard Waycott said.

Keerthi Chawla at a Audio Function

Tamil movie Bhaghavan's music release was recently launched in Chennai with TFPC executive members Rama Narayanan and V C Guganathan gracing over the occasion. Director K R released the audio CD and actress Keerthi Chawla received the first copy.

A. Shailesh has wielded megaphone for the film with Yuvaraj and Udhayathara are donning the lead characters. K.K. has tuned melodies for this film. Touted to be a newfangled thriller, the director affirms that the film has an interesting narration and audiences wouldn’t be able to predict the next sequence.

The film is produced by Madhavi Mohan and Asha Muralidharan under the banner Sree Annapoorna Creations.

Don't count on Kendra Wilkinson and Hank Baskett to be the latest celebrity couple to split.

Amid rumors of trouble, Wilkinson took to Twitter to write: "How handsome do my 2 favorite men look???" and linked to photos of Baskett and their son, who turns 1 in December, on her website.

Internet reports surfaced that Wilkinson plans to move to L.A. with her son -- but without her pro athlete husband. A source confirms the reality star will be splitting her time between California and Minnesota, where Baskett plays football for the Vikings, but only because of work.

The couple are "just fine," the source says. "She'll be spending the majority of her time in L.A. because of work and because her family is here in San Diego."

The source adds: "They're all good in their relationship. Their living situation is always very up in the air. But Kendra likes to have a base in L.A."

Kim and Aish at a fashion Show

It was high time fashion weeks in Mumbai did something special to lift their sagging reputation.

And the scales were bound to tip in the city's favour after designer Manish Malhotra roped in none other than Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as his showstopper on Day 1 of the HDIL couture week.

Now, that's something Delhi - with its overdose of celebrity presence at fashion weeks - is still not likely to level any time soon.

Considering that she walked for a designer after ages, it was bound to be a special moment. In the past, Aishwarya has only taken to the runway when she endorsed brands.

She hasn't walked for a designer since her modelling days.

Looking splendid in an ivory coloured net and georgette lehenga with understated detailing, Aishwarya proved how she still rules the runway. With big hair and smoky eyes, the actress, who is on the wrong side of her 30s, looked resolutely smouldering.

She steered clear of being pretty, bubbly or sensational on the runway; instead she went for the subtle sexiness she's known for.

Cheering on from the front row were hubby Abhishek Bachchan, mother Vrinda Rai, mom in-law Jaya Bachchan and others from the fashion and film fraternity.

Manish unleashed a line of creations that was perfect wedding wear.

Presenting colours ranging from white to flame red, the lehengas were tiered or panelled and edged with velvet or brocade borders while the cholis were tiny and sexy. Men's wear was as ornate in the similar colour segments with sherwani s, kurta s Raja coats and bandhgala s with lavish embroidery on velvet or in gold brocade.

Also present were Mandira Bedi, Kim Sharma and Sonam Kapoor.

Sonam, who after the Aisha debacle is still holding on tightly to her fashionista throne, came wearing a 1960s inspired black dress.

Though she didn't quite create the desired effect in her below-the-knee ill-fitting dress, her choice of accessories pleased all. Continuing the trend of teaming traditional Indian jewellery with western silhouettes, she wore a traditional polki and emerald neckpiece with her satin midi dress.

Bedi and Sharma disappointed with their style run in a pink lehenga - type ensemble and animal print number respectively.

So it was left to Ash to lift the glam quotient. She was the diva on the catwalk, but off it she was back to being the Bachchan bahu - posing for family shots.

Lakshmi Rai Hot Gossips

Responding to the observers' comments that Lakshmi Rai's appearance resembles that of Nayanthara, the former said, "I have my own style and I have no obligation to imitate somebody." A reporter in Chennai apparently asked Lakshmi Rai whether she is imitating Nayanthara in the aspects of attire and hairstyle for which she responded as cited. It seems she explained, "I eat rice daily and that doesn't mean somebody eating rice imitates me. Likewise, glamour isn't the owned property of certain actress. Malayalam film 'Casanova' is one of the projects I'm committed with. My character in that film is allied with glamour. My attire in the film is indeed a head turner. I'm dressed up in my own style for the film."

Currently, Lakshmi Rai is busy with the projects in hand. She is acting in the Malyalam films Casanova, Christian Brothers, Makeup Man. Her Hindi film is Tere Bina Jiya Nahin Jaye. She does act in the Tamil film titled Mangatha. Three out of five films are planned to be released in November.

Lara Dutta to act in DON 2

Lara Dutta plays Shah Rukh Khan's moll in Don 2, the role Eesha Koppikhar played in the original. Meanwhile, Priyanka Chopra encores the leading lady's role.

Icy winds blew across Germany's capital city the minute Priyanka landed. Says a source, "Lara was already there a week before Priyanka.

An insider reveals, "The two barely exchanged hellos with frosty smiles before directing their warmth to Shah Rukh and director Farhan Akhtar."

The two beauties have a history. They were crowned Miss World and Miss Universe the same year. They started their careers in Andaaz.

And though Lara (playing a grieving widow, if you please!) had the author-backed role, it was Priyanka who waltzed away with the stardom and the plum assignments with Akshay Kumar.

Ever since, Dutta has steered clear of offers to work with the actress. She was hesitant to sign on for Don 2.

It was only when Farhan assured her that her role would be fleshed out that she agreed to be part of the film.

Also lead actor SRK, has a soft spot for Mahesh Bhupathi's new fiance ever since she agreed to act in his home production Billu a part every actress in town had refused.

Even without their past differences, things between them were never going to be easy. When any two actresses shoot together, there is always stress.

They worry about who has the better room, better fee, better clothes, better scenes... the list is endless.

Naturally, Priyanka was already wary, edgy and exhausted when she arrived in Berlin a week after her former friend and now fierce rival, had already gotten comfortable with the unit. Lara clearly has a headstart.

The fact that they have unequal roles, is reason enough for them to be suspicious of each other. One has been promised the "leading lady" part and the other, "an important role."

The insecurities have already surfaced with the two ladies choosing to remain in their own corners for as long as possible.

Says a close friend of Priyanka, "To begin with, their roles are unequal. If you see Esha Koppikhar's role in Don you'd know what Lara is playing."

Priyanka has had a very stressful ad shoot and dubbing, which had to be completed in two days. In addition, there was a section of the industry trying to demolish her performance in Anjaana Anjaani.

Madhavan to Sing

Madhavan may be taking a sabbatical and going for a bike ride all over Europe soon but he has signed two big films in Tamil. Incidentally both are by Dayanidhi Azhagiri's Cloud Nine Movies.

The first film is Vettai to be directed by N Linguswamy where Maddy has a parallel role along with Arya in the film.

Arya is currently on a high with two of his films -- Boss (E) Bhaskaran and Madrasapattinam hitting the bull's eye while Madhavan has become a national star with the stupendous success of 3 Idiots. Madhavan is acting in a Lingusamy film after their successful Run many years ago. The female leads have not yet been finalised

Athirshtasaali to be directed by Vikram K Kumar of Yaavarum Nalam fame is the next project. Vikram and Madhavan had joined hands for Yaavarum Nalam, which was a big success. The same combination will be seen again.

"This is not going to be a horror film like their last work, this would be a light hearted romantic film with a key twist to the plot. The female lead for the film has not yet been finalised. The casting has just started and Vikram is busy locking the script. This would be a wonderful project for us as this script opens a door for us to step into another genre. The project is all set to take off in 2011," Azhagiri said in a statement.
